Did you keep abreast of American music in 2004? Then you probably remember a hit by the name of Gold Medal, released by rock band The Donnas. You might also remember one of the singles on that album, Fall Behind Me, which made it as a background song for the Nissan Xtera, not to mention the 2006 U.S. coverage of the Olympic Snowboarding Team.

Featuring a slightly bizarre and wholly retro music video of a unicorn in space (among other psychedelic imagery), Fall Behind Me is typical of The Donnas music in that it owes much to the rock music of the 80’s, right down to the strange and somewhat cheesy music video.

It’s a song of begging for mercy. It aggrandizes the girls against an unseen person to whom the song is addressed, saying that person has nothing on them. Humbling and slightly egotistical, but it’s a good song, so no problems there.
